The view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life. ~Carol Dweck

There are two mindsets that shape your life: fixed and growth.

Carol’s research shows us:

When you enter a mindset, you enter a new world. In one world — the world of fixed traits — success is about proving you’re smart or talented. Validating yourself. In the other — the world of changing qualities — it’s about stretching yourself to learn something new. Developing yourself.”

I am recommending Carol’s book: Mindset: The New Psychology of Success as a must-read for all SMARTSTARTERs. This post on Brainpickings reminded me of it (thanks Maria Popova!) and gives you a preview of what you’ll find in the book and multiple hints as to why it’s well worth your time to read it.

As you move past the half-year point there’s still plenty of time to achieve your business goals. However, if you set them from a fixed mindset, you might want to consider what changes should be made.

Have you been feeling more struggle than joy in the first two quarters of the year? That’s always the first clue there’s a disconnect that needs to be remedied sooner rather than later because it is holding you back. And you still have two more chances to correct your course.

The good news? You are always in charge of who you become and what you ultimately achieve.

More next time. Until then, remember to LOVE YOUR WORK, whatever it may be.
