A blog is not a business. Focus on building your business first.

As harsh as it may sound, creating products and building a blog does not mean you are in business. Making money selling products and services while blogging means you are in business.

I know many SMARTSTARTers building online businesses are blogging to attract customers. Whether you are a new or veteran blogger, I consider this post published by David Risley a must-read for you: Blog Monetization Model: The Most Effective Blog Revenue Strategy That Exists.

NOTE: I’ve never met or worked with David (and only recently came upon his work) but it’s clear to me he really “gets it”! His post is so well organized and written, not to mention truthful, I’m convinced you’ll be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t take the time to read it thoroughly.

I also encourage you to explore his website, Blog Marketing Academy. You’ll see he has done a remarkable job with it. He also has a lot of great stuff to offer if you’re looking for additional resources and professional assistance.

You can learn more about David and read his interesting business-building story here.

More next time. Until then, remember to LOVE YOUR WORK, whatever it may be.
